Things To Do PDF Print E-mail

There are TONS of things to do in and around San Diego. Check out the list below and visit their websites for more info.

THE BEACH

Here are a few of our favorite local beaches.

Torrey Pines - It's usually not too crowded on a typical weekend, the surf is pretty good, and there is a lot more to do than just lay in the sun. The south parking entrance leads up to the State Park, which has lots of trails. The bus has a stop there so it's easy to get to. Be sure to pack a lunch and drinks though because the closest restaraunt or convenience store is quite a walk.

La Jolla Shores - just over the hill and south of Torrey Pines is La Jolla Shores.  This beach also features a nearby park. The beach itself is huge and is family friendly. Another cool thing about La Jolla Shores is that it has easy access to shops.

Pacific Beach - this is a classic, old-school San Diego beach. PB really has two personalities - north and south of the Crystal Pier. The north side is away from the crowds and has some good waves. South is where you can find people, play a game of pickup ball, and hang out.  PB is a very college-oriented beach with a nightlife to match.

MUSEUMS

San Diego has a bunch of museums to check out and many of them are near each other in Balboa Park (which is its own attraction). There are museums for history and photography buffs, plane and car enthusiasts, and a cool place called the Ruben H FLeet science center. There is a miniature train museum too.  http://balboapark.org/in-the-park/organizations.php?catID=5

Every Tuesday, some of the Museums are free to San Diego Residents http://balboapark.org/calendar/detail.php?EventID=370

PARKS

Generally speaking, parks in San Diego are operated either by the various cities (there are 17 of them) or by the County.  There are literally hundreds of parks to visit. Take a look at the City of San Diego's website and the County website for more info.  To locate a park near you, try using SDcommunities -- choose where you live then "Parks and Recreation" from the "more services" dropdown on the left.

LIBRARIES

San Diego has an awesome library system. The libraries are all over the City and County and they have multiple services ou can use. You can use a computer for free (you will have to sign up ahead of time). You can check out library books, movies, and music CDs. You can study for a test or just relax in a quiet place. Many of the libraries display historic or local artist's works. http://www.sandiego.gov/public-library/locations/#VeryTop#VeryTop
