Moving into a place of your own can be an exciting time in your life.  It can also be a little stressful if you if you don't plan ahead.  You should start planning six months before you intend to move out.  Here are some questions to get your started.

 

 

What's Your Housing Plan?

Do you plan on:

  • Living with your foster family or guardian
  • Living with a relative or a friend’s family
  • Transitional Living Programs (TLP’s)
  • Renting a room in someone’s home
  • Renting an apartment with roommates
  • Renting an apartment alone

    Answer the following:

    1. Where do I want to live?
    2. Is it near public transportation?
    3. How much can I afford to pay for rent?
    4. Who do I want to live with?
    5. Is the person I want to live with able to pay their share of the bills?
    6. Should I apply for the housing programs?  YES, YES, YES!
    7. Have I applied for THP Plus?
    8. Have I attended an orientation for a TLP?
